Wooster Wins Battle with JCU Men's Tennis

The Blue Streaks and Fighting Scots will be conference rivals next spring

WOOSTER – In a Sunday afternoon matinee match, John Carroll Men's Tennis welcomed The College of Wooster to The Wembley Club in Chagrin Falls.

In a preview of a future conference matchup, the Blue Streaks fell short to the Fighting Scots.

John Carroll experienced a 5-2 defeat, dropping to 0-2 early in the spring.

An early deficit due to doubles hindered John Carroll. Anthony Markello and Dylan Westmeyer did make a nice pairing, getting a 6-3 win at the #1 doubles.

But the other two doubles losses snagged the team doubles point for the Fighting Scots (doubles went from 3 points to 1 team point in the final score in the offseason). Luis Wentz and Griffin Millspaugh combined for a 6-3 loss at the #2 position. Phillip Gorun and Jack Sigler scuffled to a 6-1 loss at #3 doubles.

Markello gritted out the #1 singles contest, losing a 6-3, 6-2 battle at the top of the lineup. Next up on the scorecard was Westmeyer, who accepted a 6-4, 6-3 loss. Gorun got one of the team's highlights of the day. The veteran opened with a 6-1 triumph before his foe forced a tiebreaker set, which Gorun took home, 10-5.

Millspaugh turned in a W for the #4 singles slot. The Louisville, Ohio native fired up a 6-2, 6-0 win. Luis Wentz split two sets with his opponent at #5, and just by the slimmest of margins, lost it in the third set in a war. Sigler played close at #6, but couldn't break through in a 6-4, 6-4 loss.

Next Up
John Carroll will now prepare for spring break, which starts next weekend. The Blue Streaks are bound for Hilton Head in South Carolina.
