Men's Lacrosse Edges Fighting Scots in Overtime

JCU scored in OT to upend Wooster's fierce fourth-quarter comeback

WOOSTER – With a squad breaking in players at several spots, closing out games can take time to figure out.

While the end of the fourth quarter was anxiety-inducing for the Blue Streaks, in overtime, John Carroll Men's Lacrosse got the job done.

John Carroll eked out a 10-9 victory in overtime at the College of Wooster to advance to 2-1 on the year.

At the start of the contest, JCU and Wooster traded tallies. Braden Zarek, Sean Keane, and Frank LaForce all found twine for the visitors. John Carroll and Wooster stood tied after the opening period, 3-3.

The second quarter was a quiet one for both offenses. The Fighting Scots notched the lone goal of the second with just 1:06 left. The hosts carried the narrow 4-3 lead into the second half.

Coming out of the break, John Carroll really revved up the offense. Keane started the party, with Max Cook feeding LaForce soon after to grab the lead. Zarek played the role of proficient passer the rest of the way, feeding Keane twice. The Blue & Gold burst into the fourth with a 7-4 advantage.

Wooster did get the first goal of the stanza, but JCU responded in kind. Keane kept up his strong day, with Larry Voss setting him up. With 5:17 to play, Zarek found LaForce to set JCU ahead, 9-5.

The Fighting Scots dominated the next five minutes with four goals to knot the game at nine, the tying tally occurring with just 22 seconds remaining. In overtime, the Blue Streaks redeemed themselves. Zarek, quickly becoming one of the team's top playmakers, stepped up in the clutch. At the 3:18 mark of overtime, BZ found a way to score, helping JCU emerge from enemy territory for the win.

Braden Zarek stood atop the scoresheet with 7 points. Sean Keane also excelled with 6 points plus 4 groundballs and a caused turnover. Speaking of defense, Camden Uchic led JCU with 3 caused turnovers. Nicholas Yemma did nice work on faceoffs, winning 12-of-22 while grabbing 9 groundballs. Devin Holder got the win in cage, accumulating 8 saves.
