Blue Streaks Pick Up Win to Salvage Series at Mary Washington

JCU's bats took advantage of UMW errors and the pitching was very strong

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – A trip to the University of Mary Washington has become a tradition since 2022 for John Carroll Baseball. While the Eagles have enjoyed an advantage, the Blue Streaks have never been swept.

That trend continued, as John Carroll notched one win in the 3-game series with UMW for a third straight year.

On Sunday morning, the Blue Streaks' bats made up for a slow Saturday, propelling JCU to a dominant 8-1 victory.

A myriad of UMW errors aided John Carroll plenty, starting in the second inning. An error helped to extend the frame, allowing George Haracz to plate the game's first run on a nice single.

While Austin Miller cruised on the bump, John Carroll opened the floodgates in the fourth. Erik Daugenti reached on an error to start the inning. The Eagles quickly got two outs, which would have ended the frame if not for the mistake. But JCU took advantage with a 2-out rally, highlighted by RBI singles by Sean Connolly and Connor Mayle. By the time the dust settled, JCU owned a dominant 6-0 advantage.

The teams traded runs in the sixth, JCU's coming on an Ethan Glossa single. The run allowed did nothing to sour Miller's excellent day, as the senior stood tall for six innings, allowing just two hits.

Jay Rinehart performed quite well in relief, too. The junior picked up the save thanks to a brilliant 3-inning effort. It marked the first career save plus the first scoreless multi-inning outing for the Bay native.

Glossa guided the effort at the dish with a pair of hits. Up and down the order, JCU's patience showed, as the visitors accumulated 5 walks
