Softball Struggles Against Talented Muskingum Squad

The Blue Streaks were outscored 19-0 in their double header

NEW CONCORD – The Blue Streaks' bats were left in University Heights today, as John Carroll Softball was unable to score a run in either game of a doubleheader.

Muskingum proved too much to handle, as the Fighting Muskies handed the Streaks two losses, 8-0 (6 inn.) and 11-0 (5 inn.), respectively.

The defeats dropped John Carroll's record to 6-8 on the season and 0-2 in conference play.

Game 1

Not much went the Blue Streaks' way in their first conference game of the season.

Muskingum, an OAC juggernaut, put up crooked numbers in the first and third innings. The decisive blow came in the fourth when the Fighting Muskies tallied four runs to pull ahead, 6-0.

JCU's bats remained quiet until the fifth, when Alyssa McPeek notched the visitors' first hit of the game. However, the rally stalled, and Muskingum ended the contest in the sixth with a two-run frame.

Game 2

Things didn't improve for the Blue Streaks in Game 2.

Muskingum came out swinging, plating seven runs in the first inning. Starting pitcher Kristin Dems recorded just two outs before surrendering six earned runs. Emily Graves entered in relief to get the final out but not before allowing an earned run of her own.

The Blue Streaks attempted to spark a rally in the second inning when Elizabeth Hohlefelder and Izzy Coode led off with singles. However, JCU couldn't capitalize, stranding both runners.

John Carroll's pitching settled in, allowing just one run combined in the second and third innings. However, Muskingum tacked on three more in the fourth, extending the lead to 11-0.

In their final at-bats, the Blue Streaks were unable to break the shutout, sealing a tough day at the plate.

Coode led the way with two hits in Game 2, while Kendall Trunzo and Hohlefelder each added a hit.

Next Up

John Carroll's scheduled games vs. Albion on Sunday were postponed. The Blue Streaks' next contests will be an OAC doubleheader against Otterbein at Bracken Field.
