Men's Tennis Gets in the Win Column, Defeating Lebanon Valley College

HILTON HEAD, S.C. – The Blue Streaks are officially in the win column.

John Carroll Men's Tennis hoped to mark down a win sooner, but Monday's match vs. Tiffin University was halted due to the light turning off and due to rainout of Wednesday's match vs. Bridgewater College.

But nothing could stop the Blue Streaks on Thursday, as JCU fired up a 7-0 victory over Lebanon Valley College.

The doubles matches atop the lineup were closely contested. Anthony Markello and Dylan Westmeyer needed a 7-4 tiebreaker victory to grab a 7-6 decision at the #1 spot. Luis Wentz and Griffin Millspaugh also eked out a close win at #2, 7-5. Jack Sigler and Phillip Gorun did not experience much difficulty at #3, 6-2. And so, JCU swept the doubles and earned the lone doubles team point.

Markello papered over his foe with ease at #1 singles, 6-2, 6-3. Westmeyer, his doubles mate, experienced a much more difficult bout at #2. The graduate student dropped the first set, 5-7, before roaring for a 6-3 comeback in set two. The tiebreaker belonged to the veteran, 10-3. Gorun also needed a tiebreaker set after splitting sets, 6-2 and 3-6. But again, JCU's experience paid off, this time with a 10-5 tiebreaker win.

Millspaugh rolled in the opening set, 6-2, before needing a ferocious effort to win set two, 7-5, and take the #4 singles win. Wentz did not encounter as much trouble at #5, 6-2, 6-0. Sigler finished off the full team sweep with a 6-1, 6-3 conquest at #6.

Next Up
John Carroll has one more match scheduled in South Carolina, facing LeTourneau University on Friday to finish off spring break. JCU will also try to squeeze in the remainder of Monday's match vs. Tiffin if the schedule allows.
