Honoring Dugan and Mumbach on Senior Day, Men's Lacrosse Beats Muskingum

The Blue Streaks scored 8 goals in the first quarter and never looked back

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Celebrating seniors Aidan Dugan and Hayden Mumbach, John Carroll Men's Lacrosse got a nice home win on Saturday afternoon.

The Blue Streaks dispatched Muskingum University, 15-7, advancing to 6-1 on the season in Ohio Athletic Conference play.

"I could not be more proud of Aidan and Hayden," said Head Coach Joe Rautenstrauch. "Aidan and Hayden have provided great leadership for our team and have been key pieces over the last four years. I'm glad we could get a good team win for them today."

Muskingum scored two of the game's first three goals, but the rest of the first quarter belonged to the Blue Streaks.

The scoring was balanced for John Carroll, as Josh Lombardo, Casey LaForce, Richard Moran, Billy Paladino, Sean Keane, and Seamus Nicholson all found twine. Moran was particularly impressive in the early going, utilizing his physicality to create space. The Blue Streaks scored mostly unassisted goals, creating openings with pretty dodges and nice moves.

All in all, it was a banner first quarter for the Blue Streaks, a total offensive clinic that certainly made the coaching staff happy with an 8-2.

The second quarter was more muted. Moran and Paladino did find twine. But while the Blue Streaks peppered the net with shots, the Fighting Muskies stood tall against the shots. Even still, the Blue Streaks enjoyed a comfortable 10-3 advantage.

The third quarter elapsed much like the second, as LaForce and Moran both scored goals, but it was an overall quiet quarter. JCU still felt in full control entering the fourth quarter, 12-5.

JCU fired up a 3-goal run to open the fourth quarter, beginning with a Sean Keane man-up goal. Lombardo then fired one home, and Jason Xiao capped it off with his first collegiate goal. While Muskingum scored a couple of late goals, John Carroll never doubted the victory.

Moran led the offense with 4 goals. Sean Keane provided 3 points and nabbed a team-best 8 groundballs. Both Ivan Roeder and Josh Lombardo tabbed 2 caused turnovers. Nicholas Yemma won 16-of-24 faceoffs.
