Men's Tennis Falters in Very Close Match at Baldwin Wallace

JCU lost a tough battle to the Yellow Jackets

BEREA, Ohio – An 11-match winning streak against Baldwin Wallace ended on Wednesday for John Carroll Men's Tennis.

The Blue Streaks experienced a difficult defeat at the Yellow Jackets, dropping a 5-2 loss to BW at the Pop Collins Courts.

The match was quite close, as two doubles matches required a tiebreaker, two singles matches required a third set, and one more singles contest took a tiebreaker.

JCU switched up the doubles duos, with mixed results. Anthony Markello and Griffin Millspaugh earned the lone doubles win at #1. It took a while, but the veterans worked together well in a 7-6 victory made possible by an 8-6 tiebreaker. Luis Wentz and Jack Sigler dropped a 6-3 bout. In a heartbreaker at #2 doubles, Dylan Westmeyer and Phillip Gorun lost a 7-6 contest, decided by the minimum in a 9-7 tiebreaker.

Markello secured a conquest at the top of the lineup. It was a nailbiter, as the junior notched a 7-5, 3-6, 10-4 conquest at #1 singles. Westmeyer experienced an identical start (7-5, 3-6) but could not seal the deal, losing the third set, 1-6. Similarly, Millspaugh won the first set, 6-4, and dropped the second, 4-6. In the deciding set, the vet lost a 6-3 battle.

Gorun grabbed a nice win at #4 singles. The junior fought for a 6-4, 6-3 victory. But the end of the lineup did not have any more success. Wentz (1-6, 2-6) and Sigler (2-6, 1-6) both dropped defeats at #5 and #6.
