CHARDON – You couldn't ask for too much more at the Caschera/DiCillo Classic.

During a two-day invitational honoring legendary former coaches Dan Caschera and John DiCillo (both larger than life Men of Carroll), John Carroll Men's Golf put forward an impressive effort.

The Blue Streaks finished second place with a final line of 291-300-591. Winning the weekend was Kenyon College with a line of 296-288-584, seven strokes better than JCU. The Owls, ranked #15 in NCAA Division III, also claimed the medalist, as Jonathan Oakes won the honor by two strokes with a tally of 72-70-142.

John Carroll's Sunday effort was the team's best of the spring, a needed one late in the regular season. The Monday effort was also nice, though not enough to overtake Kenyon. JCU did beat out five future NCAC foes, including #35 Wittenberg.

Austin Malley anchored the effort for John Carroll. The Venetia, Pennsylvania native roared for two-under-par efforts on both the front and back nines on Sunday, highlighted by five birdies, including three on the final five holes. His score of 68 (-4) was without a doubt a round to remember. The sophomore slowed some during Saturday's start, but rolled an even 36 in the final nine for a 76. Malley tabbed a second-place effort of 144 (E), two behind the medalist.

Kamden Mowry played quite well as JCU's second man. The Ashland native bogeyed only once, birdying the No. 2 and 8 holes for a 35 (-1) on his first nine. His second nine holes avoided any major negative holes, with an even 36 for a one-under-par 71 in his first round. The sophomore fired up a couple birdies early on Monday, but experienced a bit of difficulty here and there later on. Still, he finished with a 74 (+2), carding a 145 for the tournament, tying for third.

Michael Keefe opened the event with steady golf, with identical 38's on the front and back nine for a 76 on Day 1. The Notre Dame College transfer seesawed at the start of Day 2, with back-to-back bogeys giving way to back-to-back birdies, ultimately ending his first nine even. A few birdies made up for a few plus holes late, ending the round at 74 (+2). For the tournament, Keefe concluded in a tie for 15th.

Daniel Donahue is rounding into form as the spring rolls along The sophomore phenom roared in the fall but has taken time to warm up. After achieving par on his first six holes of the event, the Pittsburgher ran into trouble midway through, before bouncing back with a birdie on No. 15 and then three par holes to finish with a 79. Birdies on No. 6 and No. 13 highlighted his Monday round of 77, as he rocked a 35 (-1) on the back nine, avoiding any bogeys.

Keeping a steady pace is important in golf, and London Hoyser did that during this event. The sophomore scored a 76 on both days, ending up in 19th place. The No. 9 and No. 14 holes were especially productive for Hoyser, as he birdied both on each day. A strong birdie on No. 18 concluded his Monday.

Competing as an individual, Justy VonLehmden matched Keefe's 150, though he came about it differently. The Saint John's Jesuit grad soared for a fantastic 69 (-3) on the opening day. Unfortunately, he came back to earth some in the second round, finishing with an 81.

Wade Boyle also competed as an individual and experienced the opposite effect. Following a cold start of 82 on Sunday, the Greensburg Central Catholic grad rolled on Monday, carding a 71 (-1). His strong day was capped off by a beautiful par putt on No. 9.
