Winning Streak Ends at Home for Baseball, as JCU Loses to Allegheny

The Blue Streaks lost on a windy day at Schweickert Field

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On a beautiful, windy Tuesday afternoon at Schweickert Field, John Carroll Baseball dropped a non-conference affair.

Allegheny College ended John Carroll's 6-game winning streak in a 6-1 contest.

The Blue Streaks now possess a 22-12 record entering a critical conference series on Friday.

The Gators started out hot. After a couple of strange plays in the infield, the Gators took advantage of the opportunity, hitting a 3-run homer to take the lead after one inning. The Gators tallied another run on the board in the third, while JCU struggled to get runners into scoring position due to double plays.

John Carroll loaded the bases with no outs in the fifth. Connor Mayle started the fifth with a single, and JCU loaded the bases thanks to a couple of Allegheny miscues. But while Jack Harmon got one home on a sacrifice fly, Allegheny escaped there, with the lead at three runs.

The bullpen firmed up for the Blue Streaks for a while. Kevin Holland and CJ Desmond both notched two scoreless innings. But the Gators got to Sean Connolly in the eighth, adding a pair of insurance runs. Owen Gerba pitched a clean ninth in his final time pitching at Schweickert Field.

Connor Mayle enjoyed the best day at the dish for JCU, accounting for two of JCU's five hits.
