Blue Streaks Make Cut After Day Two of NCAA Championship

Penfield, N.Y. – On day two of the NCAA Championship the John Carroll men's golf team finished tied for 11th. Posting +30 over 36 holes, as they made the cut for the first time in program history and are the first team from the Ohio Athletic Conference to do so since 2018. 

The conditions today were far from ideal with a steady rain for 13 holes and the temperatures in the low 50's, but the Blue and Gold pushed through the elements.

The last time JCU made the NCAA Championship was in 2022 when the team finished T-28 th and missed the cut. This time John Carroll will have two more rounds to play and will look to climb the leaderboard.

Austin Malley led the way again shooting +3 and is currently +3 for the tournament, as Malley is currently tied for 12th overall. With it being a shotgun start today, Malley teed off on the 11 th hole and recorded a par. After having back-to-back bogeys on 12 and 13 the sophomore birdied 16 to finish the first nine one over par.

Kamden Mowry had the largest leap of the afternoon jumping 45 spots by shooting +4. Mowry was extremely consistent with a 38 on both the front and back nine with 12 par's, five bogey's and one birdie.

London Hoyser finished the afternoon shooting an 80 and is currently +12 for the Championship. Hoyser found success on the par five's by recording three birdies and one par.

After shooting even par yesterday, Michael Keefe shot +9 and is currently T-65 and rounding out the squad was Daniel Donahue shooting +9 and he is currently +11 over the first two days.

Head Coach Jeff Pawlowski said following the second round "Derek Smith (assistant coach) has been instrumental in our success the last two days." Pawlowski continued, "The on-course advice Derek has provided the players is one of the keys to our success."

Illinois Wesleyan currently leads the field at +17 and the Blue Streaks are one stroke back from being in the top ten and six strokes back of the top five.
The third and fourth round will follow suit of today's weather as the forecast is predicting for it to be rainy and cold. John Carroll will tee off tomorrow at 8:00 a.m. and 8:36 a.m. at Midvale GCC.
