Women's Tennis Loses OAC Tournament Championship to ONU

John Carroll battled hard but could not overcome a tough Ohio Northern squad

WOOSTER – While the score may not indicate it, John Carroll Women's Tennis gave juggernaut Ohio Northern University a go of it in the 2025 Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

In the program's first OAC Tournament Championship appearance since 2021, the Blue Streaks lost a 4-0 match to the Polar Bears indoors at Aspen Racquet Club in Wooster.

With the defeat, John Carroll finishes the 2025 campaign with an 11-5 record.

Doubles play set John Carroll behind in the early goings. Maddie Kavenagh and Evelyn Deren accepted a rare defeat in doubles play atop the lineup in a 6-0 defeat. Caroline Chandler and Madi Davila then lost a 6-1 contest, allowing Ohio Northern to grab the doubles point.

The first singles match to be decided was #4 singles. Davila dropped a 1-6, 1-6 decision in a fiercely contested match.

Next to fall was Caroline Chandler, losing a 0-6, 0-6 foe to send JCU to the brink.

The deciding contest was at #3 singles.  Felicity Kolb accepted a 2-6 loss in the opening set and then lost a 4-6 set two amidst a comeback attempt.

When the match was abandoned, Emma Smith was on the precipice of winning #5 singles (6-2, 4-1), Kavenagh was on the comeback trail at #1 (2-6, 4-3), and Deren was daring to dream of a comeback at #2 (2-6, 2-4). But today belonged to the Polar Bears.

This marks the final action in the OAC for JCU, with a move to the North Coast Athletic Conference ahead next season.
