Women's Golf Earns 2nd at Joe Campoli Memorial, Completing Excellent Weekend

The Blue Streaks improved by two strokes from Sunday to Monday

HARROD, Ohio – No trophies were earned on Monday for John Carroll Women's Golf, but that doesn't mean the Blue Streaks shined any less bright.

On Labor Day, John Carroll took part in Ohio Northern's Joe Campoli Memorial, a separate team event from yesterday's ONU Kick Off Classic but the two were combined for the medalist honors.

While the Blue Streaks performed even better with a team score of 329, ONU's Marisa Alfes shot a record 69 (-3) to guide the Polar Bears to a team title and won medalist honors, beating out Julia Gulla.

Still, JCU's team tally of 329 tells a tale: The Blue Streaks have a strong squad filled with promising players with a bright future. Head Coach Missy Gedeon is certainly pleased with the excellent weekend effort.

After setting the program record for an 18-hole round with an incredible 74 (+2), Gulla returned to earth a bit today. The first year from Sagamore Hills carded an 81, dropping out of medalist contention. Still, what an impressive weekend it was for the rookie Blue Streak.

Emily Burling led the Blue Streaks on Monday, tying for second in the field for the day. The Hudson native soared for a score of 79 to guide the Blue Streaks to the program's best round since at least 2007.

Alexandra Yaeger improved significantly on the second day, as well. The Naperville, Illinois native marked down an 84 in a strong effort.

Kyah Huckleberry provided the final counting score, as the Ashland grad notched an 85 for the afternoon. Lauren Roof, the lone returner from last year's team to compete, carded a 93.

Meanwhile on the JCU "Gold" team, Madison Maxwell marked down a 90 to top the squad. Hannah Prince trailed closely with a 91, shaving four strokes off of yesterday's result.

Meredith Thompson matched yesterday's score with a 92, while Erin McCaffrey showed improvement from yesterday with a 93. The JCU Gold squad finished with a 366, 12 strokes better than Sunday.

All in all, it was an eye-opening weekend for John Carroll Women's Golf. No doubt, it was a statement that the Blue Streaks' arrow is pointed up.
