Women's Soccer Extends Win and Shutout Streaks to Five

Generalovich scored the first and second collegiate goals of her career to beat MSJ

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – Don't look now, but John Carroll Women's Soccer is on a heater.

The Blue Streaks continued a strong stretch on Sunday, beating Mount St. Joseph on the road in a 3-0 triumph.

Since losing to Case Western Reserve University back on September 3, the Blue Streaks are 5-0. JCU has scored 11 goals in that stretch, more than two per game. More impressively, JCU has not allowed a goal in that span.

JCU's five straight shutouts mark the second such stretch in as many seasons. The last time JCU notched five consecutive shutouts in non-conference play was way back in 2008.

In the first 45 minutes, the Blue Streaks largely dominated the chances, but were not rewarded.

The visitors outshot the Lions by a whopping 9-0 margin. MSJ's goalie needed to turn away three JCU shots to keep the game on an even footing.

Not long into the second half, JCU's waiting for a break ended. MSJ tried to clear, but the Blue Streaks sent it back into danger. Emily Patrzyk played it to Brooke Berkowitz, and the first year worked her magic. Taking a touch about 30 yards out, she took a touch to set up for a powerful right-footed shot in the 58th minute. The Saint Joseph Academy boomed a beautiful shot top right, as the goalie had absolutely no chance at saving it.

Not long after in the 67th minute, the Blue Streaks added a key insurance marker.

Meredith Coloian sent it a marvelous corner kick into the box. Sophia Generalovich fought for her opportunity and didn't miss, getting enough of a piece for her first collegiate goal.

And the first year from Poland, Ohio didn't stop there. With 53 ticks on the clock, Generalovich fired home another goal. This time, Lucy Kuerbis provided the assist.

Madeline Martin stood tall in net, making one save for her fifth clean sheet in a row. Cincinnati native Kathryn Shaffer provided 90 strong minutes in the backline, as well.
