The 6 Blue Streaks join an elite group of JCU Football captains

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS -- John Carroll Football has set its captains for the upcoming 2025 season, one where the Blue Streaks will enter week one carrying a ranking of #25 in the country, courtesy of the American Football Coaches Association and D3football.com

The list consists of an impressive group of young men on and off the field. This year's captains are graduate student, Nick Semptimphelter, fifth-year Chris Golson, seniors Joe Thimons, Tommy Wasinski and Grant Myers, and junior Troy Mrukowski.

Quarterback Nick Semptimphelter was a pivotal part of John Carroll's offensive resurgence in 2024. The former Bucknell Bison threw for 2,912 yards, 38 touchdowns and just 3 interceptions in his first year as a Blue Streak. His 76% completion percentage marks the highest in a single season in JCU history. Semptimphelter's efforts earned him First Team All-OAC honors following last fall, and just a couple weeks ago he was named a third-team preseason All-American by D3football.com.

Linebacker Chris Golson enters his fifth year with the program hungry to prove what he can bring to the table. Golson missed all of last season due to injury and is back in 2025 to take care of some unfinished business. In his last full season, Golson registered 53 tackles, which ranked third amongst Blue Streaks, and notched an interception.

Fellow linebacker Joe Thimons had his most productive season as a Blue Streak in 2024. He led John Carroll in sacks with 5 and tallied a career-high 27 tackles on the year, including 8 tackles for loss. Thimons will look to fill the shoes left behind by his older brother, Tyler, who earned First Team All-OAC honors in his final season as a Blue Streak in 2024.

Defensive lineman Tommy Wasinski seems to be a perfect fit for a leadership role in 2025. The fan favorite is a staple in the middle of the Blue Streak D-line, and his teammates feed off his energy every Saturday. Wasinski had a career year in 2024, tallying 27 tackles, 5.5 tackles for loss, and 2 sacks. The big man even corralled an interception in a win over Ohio Northern.

The final senior to be named captain is offensive lineman Grant Myers. Coming off an injury that derailed his 2023 season, Myers came back with a vengeance in 2024, earning First Team All-OAC honors. Myers certainly did a stellar job keeping the pocket clean for his star quarterback Nick Semptimphelter in 2024, and will look to back that up in 2025.

The one and only junior to be named captain is offensive lineman Troy Mrukowski. The Powell, Ohio native is a high character presence in the Blue Streak locker room, and has earned the respect of his coaches and teammates at an age younger than most. Alongside Grant Myers, Mrukowski will be a crucial part of keeping Semptimphelter safe in 2025.

The Blue Streaks begin their 2025 campaign at Waynesburg University on Saturday, September 6. Their home opener will take place on the 20th of September at Don Shula Stadium, when they take on the Oberlin Yeomen in their first game of NCAC competition.
