Volleyball Drops Both Matches at Marcia French Invitational

BEREA - The John Carroll volleyball team traveled across town to Berea, Ohio for the Marcia French Invitational, unfortunately the Blue and Gold came away losing matches against Mount St. Joseph and Carnegie Mellon.

JCU vs MSJ
The first set was a true back and forth match, as JCU tied the set at 20-20 following three-straight points including a kill by Mary Kate Sheehan, a service ace by GG Beuselinck and a kill by Haley Nicholson. Mount St. Joseph scored the final three points of the set to claim an early lead and win the set 25-21.

In the second set, the Lions pulled ahead early and maintained a consistent lead. JCU trailed 15-19, but rallied and scored four-straight points to tie the set. A service ace from Beuselinck gave the Blue and Gold its first lead in the set. John Carroll would go on to win 25-23, tying the match at 1-1.

The Lions bounced back and won the third set 25-21 and led 2-1 in the match with an opportunity to close it out in four sets.

However, the fourth set would be JCU's best by a dominating score of 25-11, which included the first four-points of the set. Kendra Dziubinski recorded two service aces in the middle of the set, as JCU rattled off six-straight points.

In the fifth set, JCU and MSJ traded points early with scored tied 5-5. The Blue and Gold scored three unanswered points, as Natalie Glowe had two kills. Unfortunately the Lions scored five of the next six points and would come away with 15-13 victory.

JCU vs CMU
In their second match of the day, JCU was on the wrong side of a 3-1 result, as Carnegie Mellon University won 25-17, 22-25, 25-15, 25-18.

In the first set, the Tartans put together a few rallies consisting of three-straight points earning a convincing victory. JCU would battle back tying the match at 1-1 following a strong second set.

The Blue and Gold fell behind 4-8 early in the set, but would not give in. JCU scored six of seven points later in the set, which included Glowe and Dziubinski combining for three kills and giving JCU a 21-20. Sheehan would seal the deal with a kill a few points later.

CMU would use an 8-0 run in the middle of the third set to pull away and hold a 2-1 edge in the match. The Tartans used a similar script in the fourth set scoring seven unanswered points.
