Women's Basketball Cruises to Victory Over Oberlin


OBERLIN, Ohio - The sign of a great team is one who can go on the road and take care of business, the John Carroll women's basketball team did that Wednesday night by defeating Oberlin 83-40. 

With the victory, JCU improves to 15-2 on the year, 4-2 in the North Coast Athletic Conference and a perfect 5-0 away from the Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

The Blue and Gold were led by well-rounded scoring and strong defensive play, as six players recorded 2+ steals and allowed a season-low point total.

Senior Ava Ryncarz led the way with 19 points, including five triples, while Graci Semptimphelter added 15 points and four assists. 

In the first quarter, the duo of Ryncarz and Semptimphelter combined for six three-pointers and guided JCU to a 20-12 edge. 

The second quarter was nearly perfect, winning the 10-minute battle 20-4. Carly Perusek scored six of the first eight points of the period, as Carmen Heuker and Nicci Finazzo each recorded a bucket. 

John Carroll recorded 18 points off turnovers in the stanza and had 33 in the contest. JCU led 40-16 at the break and had 13 second-chance points. 

The second half would follow a similar game script, as the Blue and Gold would dominate by outscoring Oberlin 43-24 and having the depth step into action and keep on cruising. 

The Blue Streaks will be back in action Saturday by traveling to Wittenberg for a conference showdown at 3 p.m.
