Women's Swimming & Diving Splits Cleveland Classic in Balanced Effort

The Blue Streaks beat Baldwin Wallace and fell to Cleveland State

CLEVELAND – On a chilly Saturday in Cleveland, a trio of Northeast Ohio squads traveled to Busbey Natatorium for the 2026 Cleveland Classic.

Swimming against Baldwin Wallace and host Cleveland State, John Carroll Women's Swimming & Diving enjoyed nice results.

The Blue Streaks fired past the Yellow Jackets, 167-70, while dropping to the Vikings, 185-49.

Results

The day began with a silver finish in the 200 Medley Relay. Audrey Sevald, Olivia Goodman, Gabrielle Adamczyk, and Mairin Dalziel combined for second place in the event with a time of 1:50.20.

Individually, Sevald excelled, beginning with the 200 Free. The Akron native cooked up a time of 2:00.24 for third. Bree Shirkey followed closely behind in fourth. Later on, Sevald scored second in the 100 Backstroke, as the Akron native clocked in at 58.88.

Adamczyk thrived for John Carroll, beginning with her brightest highlight in the 100 Butterfly. The Buffalo native soared for a victory with a time of 58.49 in impressive fashion. 

In the sprints, JCU notched some solid times. Dalziel snagged fifth in the 50 Free with a mark of 25.28, followed by Taylor Hudson in sixth at 25.54. Hudson carded third in the 100 Free, clocking in at 57.14.

In the lengthier events, Ella Muzychak provided the top highlight in the 500 Free. She tabbed fourth with a mark of 5:30.72.

Kami Contakis and Hilty enjoyed a solid race in the 100 Breaststroke. The pair went fourth and fifth, led by Contakis' time of 1:12.49.

In the relays, JCU tabbed a pair of strong efforts, primarily in the 400 Free Relay to end the day. Dalziel, Adamczyk, Alyssa Galley, and Shirkey combined for a second-place time of 3:43.16. In the 200 Free Relay, JCU's quartet of Shirkey, Dalziel, JJ Gowetski, and Kaitlyn Hilty worked together for fourth at 1:41.40.

The Blue Streaks have just one more dual meet left in the campaign, hosting Case Western Reserve on January 31 for Senior Day in Johnson Natatorium.
