Women's Swimming & Diving Drops to Case Western Reserve on Senior Day

The Blue Streaks celebrated a talented bunch of seniors

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – One last time, the four seniors of John Carroll University Women's Swimming & Diving took the pool in front of the adoring home fans at Johnson Natatorium.

In front of a packed crowd, the Blue Streaks tuned up for the looming North Coast Athletic Conference Championships against a stout Case Western Reserve University team.

The Blue Streaks accepted a 204-94 defeat at the hands of the #24 Spartans. 

Results

Ella Muzychak showcased dominance in the 1000 Free. The star sophomore won handily in the longest event of the day with a 10:55.97. Later in the day, the Avon Lake native took second in the 500 Free. 

Mairin Dalziel went out on top at home, as the senior bested the field in the 50 Free. The Royal Oaks, Michigan native clocked in at 25.13 to win the day. Dalziel followed it up with a second-place result in the 100 Free with a time of 55.12. 

Audrey Sevald scored a victory in the 200 Backstroke, easily besting the competition with a clear winning time of 2:07.78. The Firestone grad also nabbed second in the 200 Free in another solid showing. The Akron native clocked in at 1:57.52. To finish off her day, Sevald tallied second in the 200 IM at 2:16.35. 

Speaking of second place, Kami Contakis managed a silver finish in the 100 Breaststroke, as the Columbus native slotted in second at 1:11.62. Another second place followed in the 200 Butterfly, as Gabby Adamczyk snagged a time of 2:13.36 for a runner-up showing. 

A trio of Blue Streaks finished top-five in the 200 Breaststroke, including a pair of seniors. Contakis led the bunch with a time of 2:32.47. Olivia Goodman and Kaitlyn Hilty followed to commemorate their last home meet. Lauren Koppelmann also celebrated her day with a fourth-place mark in the 100 Back, with a time of 1:02.68 that was just .10 seconds from second. 

The festive day came to a close in the 400 Free Relay. Dalziel, Shirkey, Taylor Hudson, and Hilty took third in the relay mixed of seniors and underclassmen. 

Next Up
The Blue Streaks will head to Denison University for the NCAC Championships from February 11-14.
