Kuerbis, Altieri, Wilgor Score to Guide Women's Soccer Past OWU

The Blue Streaks got in the win column for the first time in nearly a month

DELAWARE, Ohio – After a rough non-conference play slate, John Carroll Women's Soccer is kicking it into gear in North Coast Athletic Conference play.

Following a 0-0 draw at Denison on Tuesday, the Blue Streaks dominated Ohio Wesleyan on the road, marking the team's first win since September 13.

The Blue Streaks scored a pair of late first-half goals and sealed it with an early-second half goal to win, 3-0. Lucy Kuerbis reigned as the hero with two bigtime goals.

John Carroll got a shot on goal in the first minute, which alerted fans just how exciting the action would be. The teams traded chances as the half continued, as the goalies took turn making saves.

At the midpoint of the half, Madison Skeese made three saves in a row to keep the game level.

In the 36th minute, the Blue Streaks got on the board first. Near midfield, Brooke Berkowitz corralled the ball. Off a spin move, the sophomore sent a pass ahead to Lucy Kuerbis. The OWU defender got a piece of it before Kuerbis settled the ball and aimed an arching shot towards the goal. The ball beautifully sailed over the keeper's head and into the back of the net for an awesome goal, the first of her career.

With just over five minutes left in the half, things turned from bad to worse for the hosts. JCU got a corner kick and sent the ball into the crease. OWU tried to clear the ball but did not have any success. Thankfully for the visitors, the ball found the foot of Lucy Altieri.

The veteran tabbed a gorgeous shot, a mirror image of JCU's first goal. Again, the ball beat the goalie high, surprising the Battling Bishops. The insurance goal took the wind out of any immediate response for OWU.

John Carroll was not done early in the second half.

Ohio Wesleyan played the ball to the backline, and the Battling Bishops made a big mistake in settling the ball. Ella Wilgor raced forward, and stole the ball away, left-footing a fantastic shot high straightaway. The goalie got a hand on it but not enough, and the Blue Streaks enjoyed a 3-0 lead for the first time this season. Wilgor's goal also marked the first of her college career.

The Battling Bishops tried to get back into it, but the visitors' defense did not permit much to get through. Skeese made a couple saves in the second half, but JCU got more chances.

Closing out with a clean sheet, the Blue Streaks notched back-to-back shutouts for the first time this year, with Skeese recording her fourth shutout.
