Field Hockey Scores Season-High 6 Goals in Win at Transy

The Blue Streaks picked up a blowout NCAC win

LEXINGTON, Ky. – In your first season as a program, you don't expect many blowout wins, but John Carroll Field Hockey got one on Saturday.

The Blue Streaks breezed by Transylvania University, 6-2, on Saturday afternoon in Kentucky.

With the win, John Carroll now stands at 4-4 in North Coast Athletic Conference play with two league games left. JCU has a legitimate chance at making the NCAC Tournament, as a pair of wins and a little help, the Blue Streaks could make the postseason.

The visitors wasted little time in getting on the board, as Kierra Maxie scored just 94 seconds into the game. The star first year then set up Mia Curtis on the second goal of the game, occurring late in the first quarter.

Transylvania started to generate more chances in the second, notching 3 shots. But JCU held them off the board, heading into the break with a 2-0 advantage.

Maxie got back on the statsheet early in the third quarter. The New Albany native got a helper from Sophia Schultheis. A few minutes later, Mary Wymard set up Schultheis, putting things out of reach.

The Blue Streaks finished off the scoring with two tallies in the span of a minute in the waning stages of the third. Schultheis netted her second goal of the game to get JCU to five goals. Then, Kennedi Spencer got in on the fun, tabbing her second goal of the season.

The Pioneers scored a couple times late to break up the shutout, but the result was never much in doubt.

Ellison Hilgendorf played the full 60 minutes, notching 3 saves.
