Women's Soccer NCAC Championships Preview: JCU vs Denison

| By:

John Carroll looks to defend their crown as they take on Denison in the championship for the second year in a row.

This Saturday, the Blue Streaks will travel to Granville to take on Denison in a rematch of last year's installment of the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament Championship.

Following a major upset over the top-seeded Wooster Fighting Scots, John Carroll is making their return to the final to defend their crown.

This matchup between John Carroll and Denison is shaping up to be a tight one, as the teams drew 0-0 in their only contest this season.

Denison is in the midst of a dominant season, only losing two of their 16 games. However, if there were to be a team that could end this reign of dominance, it would be the proven underdog John Carroll.

John Carroll is riding high off the momentum from their 3-2 victory over Wooster, in which freshman Evie Coutris scored twice, alongside a goal from Abby Walker. Coutris entered the day with no goals, so her two headers certainly shocked Wooster.

Denison enters Saturday coming off a nail-biting victory against Kenyon, winning 3-1 on penalties.

Last year's NCAC Final saw the deciding goal come from the foot of Brooke Berkowitz in the 61st minute, propelling the Streaks to a 1-0 victory and their first NCAC Tournament title.

Berkowitz has enjoyed a stellar sophomore campaign, leading John Carroll in goals scored with seven. The Blue Streaks also have a three-way tie for assist leader, as Berkowitz, Gracie Villwock, and Andrea Quintero Delgado all share two apiece.

Denison looks to avenge last season's defeat with their high-powered offense and NCAC-Leading goal differential of +20. Lucy Perkins leads the way with six goals, closely followed by Ella Palmer's four. Caroline Hague has been a stalwart in net, with 35 saves. She has been the face of Denison's conference-leading .836 save rate.

The start of the much-anticipated match is set for 1 pm at Denison's Kienzle-Hylbert Stadium.
