Chicone makes the list for the third time in his career

FORT MYERS, Fla. — The storied career of the Blue Streaks graduate student point guard, Luke Chicone, is slowly coming to an end, but the accolades continue to rack up. The Mentor native has been named to the Clarence "Bevo" Francis Top 50 Watch List.

The Clarence "Bevo" Francis award is marking its 10th anniversary this season, and is presented to the top player in small college basketball including NCAA Division II, III, NAIA, USCAA and NCCAA programs. This is the third time in Chicone's career at JCU that he has made the Bevo Top 50 watch list; he made it down to the Top 25 in 2024.

This is just another accomplishment in the storied Blue Streak career for Chicone, who was a two-time All-OAC First Team honoree, D3hoops.com Second Team All-American in 2024, and OAC Dick Reynolds Player of the Year in 2024.

Chicone returned to University Heights for a fifth year after earning a medical redshirt, missing the majority of the 2024-25 season due to injury. That has not altered the Youngstown State transfer at all this year, as Chicone is averaging a career high 23.0 points per game, 4.6 rebounds per game and 6.6 assists per game, which is fourth in all of Division III. The graduate student was also recognized as a D3hoops.com Preseason First Team All-American.

With only one game to go in the regular season, the Blue Streaks will need some help if they want to clinch their first ever NCAC Regular Season championship and host the NCAC Tournament. JCU will be back in action this Saturday as they look for revenge against the Wittenberg Tigers at 3 pm.
