Women's Basketball Stifles Wittenberg on Senior Day

JCU will host the NCAC Tournament Quarterfinal on Tuesday following an eighth win in nine games

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – On a festive Senior Day, #10 John Carroll Women's Basketball dominated on both ends of the court.

In the final regular season game of the year, the Blue Streaks took on Wittenberg University on Saturday at Tony DeCarlo Varsity Center.

Following the dominant 88-47 victory, JCU will head into the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament as the #3 seed. The Blue Streaks advanced to 22-3 overall, 11-4 in NCAC play with the win.

The first quarter was back and forth until the final minute, when John Carroll went on an 8-0 run, fueled by back-to-back threes from Ava Ryncarz and Nicci Finazzo.

The Blue Streaks led 30-15 after the first quarter, and never looked back. Going into the half, they held a commanding 46-24 lead, holding Wittenburg to 9 points in the second quarter.

The momentum carried into the second half, where John Carroll found continued success. Triples by Brooke Laub and Lily Stukus stood out as highlights late in the game, bringing the bench to its feet.

All 5 of the seniors who dressed found their names in the scoring column, as Carmen Heuker, Kaylie McKenney, Carly Perusek, Ava Ryncarz, and Graci Semptimphelter combined for 60 points. Daylan Baker was unable to play due to injury, but has been a great member of the team during her time in University Heights.

Ryncarz led the team with 21 points and 5 threes, along with Semptimphelter and McKenney who both reached double figures. Nicci Finazzo provided support off the bench, tallying 13 points on the afternoon.

The energy from the bench was electric throughout the game, as the team showed their gratitude and support for their senior teammates.
