The two seniors finished their collegiate careers in Iowa

CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa – Two circuitous routes to Iowa ended on Friday.

Ty Daugherty and Thomas Lunt traveled two long, winding paths to the 2026 NCAA Division III Men's Wrestling Championships, the final competition of their collegiate careers.

Unfortunately for John Carroll Men's Wrestling, the finales occurred in the consolation bracket and not in a place match, as both Daugherty and Lunt were eliminated on Friday.

Updated Brackets

Both JCU grapplers faced a tough draw as the last wrestlers in their respective brackets. Tough competition awaited them.

Daugherty got a chance to dance at the national meet by virtue of an injury to the second placer at 133 pounds. The Avon native enjoyed the shot to wrestle following a tough defeat in a sudden victory period in the fourth-place regional bout.

On Friday morning, the senior faced off with Jacob Venezia of NYU. Daugherty experienced defeat in a third-period fall in 6:26. In the opening round of the consolation bracket, Daugherty drew Lucas Torre of New Jersey City University. The veteran lost via pin in the first period in 2:06.

Lunt conquered his final foe at Regionals by sudden victory, earning the right to compete at 285 pounds for JCU at Nationals.

The Connecticut native faced Ithaca's Kamdyn Dorchester to start. Lunt battled to the end but experienced a 19-1 tech fall defeat. With a second shot in the consolation bracket later in the day, Lunt drew Benjamin Katz of Springfield. Lunt couldn't bounce back, losing via pin in 3:48.

And thus, both Blue Streaks concluded strong senior seasons.
