Men’s Track & Field Advances Three Individuals & 4x400 Meter Relay To Finals On Day One of NCAA Indoor Championships

BIRMINGHAM, AL – What a way to kick off the weekend for the Blue Streaks!

After day one of competing at the 2026 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships in Birmingham, Alabama at the Birmingham Crossplex, the men's track & field program had a fantastic day with all events securing spots in the finals.

Coach Daniel Tutskey, Director of John Carroll University Cross Country/Track & Field and his coaching staff couldn't have asked for a better day from this group.

NCAA Indoor Championships Day One - Full Results

The day got started in the men's mile preliminary round with Sam Su placing fourth overall with a time of 4:12.20. Sam will look to earn his first All-American accolade of his career.

Next on the track was senior Tyler Gast in the men's 400 meter dash prelim as he would earn a sixth place finish overall with a time of 47.94 seconds. Gast placed third in his heat, which based on his time was good enough to get into Saturday's final.

Rounding up the individual events was senior Basheer Alramahi in the men's 800 meter run prelim. The Westlake, Ohio native earned his spot with a time of 1:53.24 to place sixth overall and a chance of earning his first All-American in the event.

To finish off on a high note, the men's 4x400 meter relay of Tyler Gast, Tony Tirado, Dustin Horner, and Basheer Alramahi advanced to the final with a time of 3:15.97, placing seventh overall.

The second day of the NCAA Indoor Championships is going to bring a lot of excitement as the Blue Streaks will now look to bring some hardware back to University Heights.
