Chicone is amongst the best small college basketball players in the country

FORT MYERS, Fla. -- While the season may be over for Luke Chicone and the Blue Streaks, the accolades have not stopped as the graduate student has been named to the Clarence "Bevo" Francis Top 25 Watch List.

The award is presented by Small College Basketball and consists of the top student-athletes competing at the NCAA Division II, NCAA Division III, NAIA, USCAA, and NCCAA levels

This is the second time that Chicone has appeared in the Top 25, the last being during the 2023-24 season.

The former Mentor standout just completed a historical season, breaking three single-season program records.

With a scoring outburst in the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament, the single season scoring record of George Dalton's 1952-53 season was finally broken after 73 years as Chicone went on to finish the season with 710 points (23.7 ppg).

The conference tournament also saw the fall of Chris Zajac's record of 74 steals during the 2008-09 season. The 5'11 point guard was committing theft all season, as he tallied a total of 83 steals (2.7 spg).

After a double-double in the NCAA Tournament Round of 64 which saw Luke tally 11 assists, the record of 176 assists in a season, which was set by David Pfundstein back in 1996-97 was officially surpassed. Luke made sure to pull away comfortably as he recorded a season total of 191 assists (6.4 apg).

After helping take home the conference tournament championship Chicone was awarded with a heavy load of awards. Averaging 33 points per game in the tournament the point guard was rightfully awarded the Tournament MVP, setting the conference record for points in the tournament.

The NCAC awards did not stop there, as after leading the conference in points, assists, and steals Chicone was named NCAC Player of the Year, the 4th athlete in NCAA Men's Basketball history to win the award in multiple conferences. Plus, his newly owned steals record had him named NCAC Top Defender while also earning a spot on the All-NCAC First Team.

Chicone isn't just found at the top of the NCAC stat leaderboards, he is doing it at the national level as well, being the only player in Division III that is top 5 in total points, steals, and assists.
