Late Comeback Comes Up Short, As JCU Falls to Grove City

DAVENPORT, FL. - Most teams when they fall behind 7-0 pack it in and focus on the next game, however Bobby Bell's squad does not fall in that category. The Blue and Gold's comeback came up short, but battled until the final pitch.

Grove City took advantage of five runs in the second inning and two in the third frame to build its lead.

In the top of the fourth, the Blue Streaks came away. Chris Bach, was hit by a pitch and followed it by stealing second base to get into scoring position. Designated Hitter Thomas Bates knocked Bach in with a line drive up the middle.

The following frame JCU put up its best fight, nonetheless with two-outs to start the inning. The Blue and Gold recorded six hits in seven batters, Bach recorded a walk in the middle of the hitting-streak.

Brett Krugman, Konner Hauck, and Bates used the entire ballpark in three-straight at-bats by hitting to center, left and then right field to each record an RBI and make the score 5-8.

The Blue and Gold would tack on one run in the seventh and one run in the eighth to make the score 7-8.

In the ninth, Hauck, the tying run, singled to center and stole second base to get into scoring position. Unfortunately JCU could not bring the tying run across the plate.

John Carroll will be back in action tomorrow taking on Trine University with the first pitch TBA.
