Men's Tennis Drops to #4 Denison in Home Opener

The Blue Streaks fought hard but were no match for the Big Red

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – At long last, John Carroll Men's Tennis got the opportunity on a nice enough day to host a match at the Short Family Tennis Center this season.

The Blue Streaks faced quite the opponent in the home opener, as Denison University, a nationally juggernaut currently ranked #4 in NCAA Division III, visited University Heights.

While JCU fought hard, the Big Red won handily in the North Coast Athletic Conference match, 7-0.

Jean Davin and Anthony Markello won games at #1 singles, but succumbed, 2-6. Dylan Murlin and Cavan Boutillette also worked hard but lost, 2-6, at #3 doubles.

While Denison is very highly ranked and overall notched a clear win, John Caroll did not lay down. All six Blue Streaks notched a crooked number on the scoreboard over the course of their two sets. Markello (#2 singles), Murlin (#4), and Boutillette (#6) all lost by 1-6, 1-6 defeats.

Davin's match took the longest at the top spot in singles. The France native nearly forced a tiebreaker, but dropped an 0-6, 5-7 defeat.
