Julia Gulla guided JCU with a runner-up effort

NEW CASTLE, Penn. – In the penultimate invitational of the regular season, John Carroll Women's Golf traveled 90 minutes west to the Avalon Field Club in Pennsylvania.

Both Blue Streaks' squads competed in the Westminster Invitational on Saturday, playing fairly well on a difficult course.

JCU's "A" Team notched third place with a team score of 364, while the JCU "B" Team tabbed fourth with a team mark of 404.

Results

Avalon Field Club played tough for the golfers, with sloping greens that were fast for April. The golfers experienced trouble with the deep, wet roughs.

As per usual, Julia Gulla provided the top score for the Blue Streaks. The Nordonia grad excelled with an 82. The first year Blue Streak finished with runner-up honors among 45 golfers. The medalist tiebreaker was decided on the No. 4 handicap hole.

Kyah Huckleberry notched an eighth-place effort, registering a mark of 90, hitting par three times on the first nine holes. Meredith Thompson tabbed 12th with a 94, tabbing par twice on both the front and back nines. Hannah Prince rounded out the top four with a 98.

Lauren Roof led the "B" squad with a 97. Madison Maxwell (101), Erin McCaffrey (102), and Irena Steffas (104) also notched scores for JCU. Amanda Millis also competed for the Blue & Gold.

Next Up
John Carroll has one more event left in the regular season. The Blue Streaks will head to the Wooster Invitational, a two-day event, next weekend.
