Baseball Beats Berg as the Bats Get the Job Done

Nico Ruoti starred in an outstanding day at the dish

TIFFIN – On a seasonably nice Sunday afternoon, John Carroll Baseball traveled to Tiffin for a single game against a well-known opponent.

The Blue Streaks headed to Peaceful Valley for a matchup with a former Ohio Athletic Conference foe. In a back-and-forth affair, the Blue Streaks emerged with a narrow win.

Plating a run in six of nine innings and holding off a late comeback, the Blue Streaks defeated Heidelberg University, 10-9.

The visitors got on the board in the top of the first in a nice start for the visitors. But Berg delivered a reply, tabbing a 5-spot to grab the lead, including a 3-run homer.

Ethan Glossa replied with a 2-run bomb of his own in the next half-inning, slicing the deficit to two. John Carroll got another run back in the fourth, as Jordan Suvak started the inning off with a double, scoring soon after on a Nico Ruoti RBI groundout.

Ruoti played the catalyst again in the sixth, as aided by an error, the sophomore got a run home on a single. Brett Krugman grabbed the lead for JCU with an RBI single, and George Haracz played another on an RBI double to right center. Just one inning later, Ruoti stayed hot, plating a pair with a clutch RBI single to left center.

A Jalen Jackson sacrifice fly in the eighth provided a critical insurance run. Heidelberg crossed three runs in the eighth to narrow the gap to just one run, 10-9.

Luis Arreola entered with no outs in the eighth and settled things down. In the ninth, the Student Princes did get the tying run aboard, but Arreola garnered a doubleplay and notched the save, the first of his career.

Austin Miller got the win for the Blue Streaks, providing 4.2 innings of excellent relief. The veteran allowed just one run in a strong effort.
Ruoti was the star of the show at the dish, with a career-high 4 hits and 4 RBIs in an excellent effort. Suvak also enjoyed a good day with 3 hits. Seven of the nine starters registered a hit.
