Women's Tennis Flies by Ohio Wesleyan in 4th Straight NCAC Victory

The Blue Streaks have won seven matches in a row

CHAGRIN FALLS – Without a doubt, the North Coast Athletic Conference is a very difficult tennis league.

But John Carroll Women's Tennis is taking on the challenge, conquering many of the teams in its way. The Blue Streaks are winners of four straight NCAC matches, seven overall.

The latest conquest is Ohio Wesleyan, as JCU dispatched of the Battling Bishops, 6-1, indoors at The Wembley Club in Chagrin Falls on Thursday afternoon.

"The women have a goal in mind and we are accomplishing that goal week-in, week-out," said first-year Head Coach Torrey McNeal. "We have a couple more weeks to see if it is mission accomplished. They've got their minds made up that they're going to do it, so we'll see in a couple weeks."

The Blue Streaks won the doubles point by taking the #1 and #2 doubles matches. Felicity Kolb and Emma Smith cruised in a 6-1 victory. The pairing is dubbed "Flemma," combining the senior's and sophomore's names.

"Everyone fears Flemma," Kolb joked after the match.

The top doubles duo of Maddie Kavenagh and Evelyn Deren also tapped a victory, 6-3, to score the team doubles point. The stars have come up with the name of "Mevelyn" for the pairing, and it's working, as Maddie and Evelyn are 10-2 on the year.

The stars also anchored the top of the singles lineup. Kavenagh avoided a tiebreaker set by hanging on in the second set, 7-5, following an easy 6-1 set one win. Deren rolled quicker, 6-3 and 6-1.

Morgan Dobos did the trick at #3 singles, 6-2 and 6-1, as the senior continues to shine in her return to the team. Kolb cruised in her contest, 6-1, 6-1.

Smith fired up a 6-3, 6-1 conquest at #5 singles to help wrap things up. Madi Davila fought back from a 5-7 opening defeat to force a tiebreaker with a 6-4 second-set win. But her #6 singles foe won the tiebreaker, 10-5.
