Women's Lacrosse Battles With #9 Denison On Senior Day

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS – The John Carroll women's lacrosse team closed out the regular season coming away on the wrong side of a 10-6 loss to #9 Denison on Senior Day.

With the North Coast Athletic Conference Tournament on the horizon the teams were set, but the seeding was still undetermined.

John Carroll started off the scoring early, as Riley Knapp was cruising in the midfield in transition and found Anna Spitzer who would find the back of the net to give JCU a 1-0 edge.

After 10 minutes of stout defense, Spitzer found Kenzie Krom on a beautiful cut to tie the game at 2-2. As time was winding down in the first period, first-year Mea Musillo made a great turn and scored her 13th goal of the season.

With 9:36 left in the second period, Knapp was attacking the goal and drew a foul. The junior midfielder put one past the keeper on the free-position shot to tie the game at 5-5.

Heading into the half, the score was tied at 5-5 and the Blue Streaks were giving the Big Red all they could handle.

In the third period, the Denison defense locked in and would not allow JCU to score any goals. However, toward the end of the period the Denison defense earned a yellow card for a slashing penalty.

To start the fourth period, Anna Vaccarelli found Abby Cassidy on a cut in front of the net to make the score 7-6 in favor of Denison.

Unfortunately, the Blue and Gold would not be able to score anymore goals and Denison would hold on to win and earn a share of the NCAC regular season title and a chance to win the conference outright on Sunday afternoon.

John Carroll qualifies for the NCAC Tournament with an opponent to be determined following the remaining conference games.
