London Hoyser helped the Blue Streaks rise to the occasion on a hot Florida day

HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. – Needing to remain steady to stay in Florida, John Carroll Men's Golf showcased the trademark consistency.

The Blue Streaks performed well with a team score of 296 (+11) during Round 2 of the NCAA Division III Championships at Mission Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. The Clevelanders, taking on the Las Colinas course, confronted an unfamiliar weather condition: Heat.

With humidity high and temperatures in the 80's, the Blue Streaks needed to keep cool heads to prevail. The Blue Streaks did just that, staying above the top-18 cutline. In finishing 16th through the first two rounds, John Carroll will get to compete in two more rounds on Thursday and Friday.

Results

"It was a long, hot day for the team. We were able to get to the finish line and extended our season for two more days," said Head Coach Jeff Pawlowski. "All five players were a factor the first two days continuing a trend we will carry into the final two rounds."

JCU started on No. 10 on Las Colinas, a par-71 course measuring at 6,820 yards. John Carroll got out to a solid start but really made hay in the final nine.

Daniel Donahue led the pack on Wednesday afternoon. The Pittsburgh native achieved par or better on all but one hole in his first 9, including a birdie on No. 12. Back-to-back birdies on No. 2 and 3 kickstarted the final stretch. The junior wrapped up the day with a two-over-par score of 73. Donahue is the team's top man at the moment, tied for 41st place.

Wade Boyle posted another good round. Despite some early bogeys, the Greensburg, Pennsylvania native got going as his round approached the halfway mark, aided by a birdie on No. 18. Five straight par holes and a birdie on the Par 3 No. 16 hole (JCU's only golfer to do that) got him firing in his final nine. Boyle carded a 74 (+3) for the day.

Austin Malley matched Boyle with a three-over-par for the afternoon. The Venetia, Pennsylvania native started with a bogey but his next eight holes were near flawless, with a birdie on No. 15 providing the top highlight. A birdie achieved on No. 7 accented his final nine and helped him finish at 74.

London Hoyser rebounded from a tough opening day by showcasing some grit. The New Yorker recovered from a slow start, helped out by a birdie on No. 16. His final nine was a beauty to behold at one-under-par, highlighted by birdies on No. 2 and 9. He was the only JCU golfer to end the day with a birdie.

"London showed some real gumption today," said Pawlowski. "I am particularly proud of him, as he locked in on his second nine with a closing 34."

Justy VonLehmden rounded out the Blue Streaks on Wednesday. The Saint John's Jesuit grad started things off with a birdie and ended with a 77 (+6).
