CLEVELAND - Another historic moment in the books for the John Carroll Field Hockey team.Â
Ellison Hilgendorf has won her first, as well as the team's first, North Coast Athlete of the Week honor.
Hilgendorf starred this past weekend as the first year posted a shutout win against Centre College.Â
In her past two games, Hilgendorf has recorded a total of 25 saves on 25 shots, a 100% save percentage.Â
She faced 11 shots against Centre College and stopped all 11 of them, leaving Centre scoreless at the end of the game. Not only was Hilgendorf able to do this throughout the normal four quarters, but also during a double overtime and penalty shootout.Â
Hilgendorf was met with multiple 1 v 1 breakaway shots from the Colonels during the double overtime but came out with the stops every time.Â
The rookie put her team on her back during the penalty shootout. She only allowed two shootout goals while saving the other four, ultimately leading her team to a 1-0 victory over Centre.Â
Hilgendorf currently has an 86% save percentage this season and has faced 43 shots while allowing only 6 goals in the past 4 games. She ranks top three in the conference in several categories.
Ellison and the Field Hockey team will return on Saturday, September 19, at 12 PM for their first NCAC competition versus DePauw University in University Heights.Â
