John Carroll Club Hockey Opens Season with Dramatic Sweep Over Villanova

The Blue Streaks open the season 2-0-0 following a dramatic overtime win Friday.

GATES MILLS, OHIO - JCU Club Hockey roars to a 2-0-0 season start, defeating Villanova in dramatic overtime fashion on Friday 4-3, and shutting down the Wildcats on Saturday 6-2.

Graduate student Charlie Tuggey would open the season scoring under 2 minutes into Friday evening's game, followed up by junior forward Camden Martin. From there, the Blue Streaks would surrender 3 unanswered goals before Colin Cronin tied the game halfway through the second period.

First year forward Evan Weiner was the overtime hero on Friday, scoring his first goal in his first game as a Blue Streak with 1:06 remaining in 3-on-3 overtime. 

Saturday's game saw the Blue Streaks and Wildcats trade goals throughout the first period, with the score being 3-2 John Carroll after 20 minutes. However, in the second and third periods, the Blue Streaks would pull away, with junior Colin Cronin scoring a natural hat trick to make the final score 6-2, sweeping the opening weekend series. Cronin ended the weekend with 8 total points, with 4 goals and 4 assists across the entire weekend.

The Blue Streaks head on the road next for a two-game weekend series against Davenport University, but return to Gilmour Academy in two weeks for a weekend series against Grand Valley State.
