5-Match Winning Streak Ends at Grove City for JCU Volleyball

Trivoli and Hovan both had nice games, but the Blue Streaks couldn't beat the Wolverines on the road

GROVE CITY, Pa. – A five-match winning streak for John Carroll Volleyball came to a close on the road.

The Blue Streaks played Grove City College close, but the 12-3 Wolverines eked out a win over JCU.

The hosts won in four sets by scores of 25-23, 25-18, 19-25, 27-25.

JCU started off strong with a 7-3 lead, resulting in an early Grove City timeout. The visitors added to the advantage to the tune of a 16-8 lead, as Grace Jones caught fire. A 10-1 Wolverines run helped to pry victory from the jaws of defeat, aided by JCU attack errors. Grove City shocked JCU with a 25-23 set win.

Grove City got out to a 10-5 start, and despite a timeout by Michele Benoit, the Blue Streaks could not rebound from the sluggish start. JCU never got particularly close in a 25-18 loss.

The visitors got out of an early hole to tie things up at 13-all. JCU replied with a 5-1 run, aided by a couple of Mary Kate Sheehan kills. The Blue Streaks never again trailed, as Grove City errors ensured that JCU could force a fourth set with a 25-19 conquest.

Grove City started to sneak ahead in the fourth set, 13-11, before JCU called a timeout. Natalie Glowe helped JCU get back to a 16-all set. After battling to a 20-20 draw, the Wolverines took control with a 4-1 run to send it to match point. But with Glowe heating up the Blue Streaks managed to tie it at 25. A JCU service error ended the mojo, however, and Grove City ended the contest with a kill.

Khloe Trivoli stuck out with a season-best 11 kills. Natalie Glowe topped the team with 14 kills, while Mary Kate Sheehan and Hailey Williams both tallied 11 kills.

Tess Murray did nice work with 28 assists (plus 15 digs), followed by Caylynn Hovan with a season-high 19 assists. Olivia Mogyordy led the backline with 27 digs,
