Cuyahoga Gold Bowl: 2007

Sept. 28 – Shula Stadium

Final: JCU 20, B-W 17 (OT)

Roller-coaster rides were not an intended part of Homecoming weekend at John Carroll University, but the Blue Streaks and Yellow Jackets took their fans on one nonetheless. In the 47th all-time meeting between the schools and the 19th in the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl series, John Carroll built a 14-0 lead thanks to a pair of Mark Petruziello touchdown runs and by piling up nearly 200 yards in the first half while limiting Baldwin-Wallace to one first down and 22 yards of offense. The Yellow Jackets, however, would storm back behind the arm of quarterback Anthony Gardner. Baldwin-Wallace would tie the game on a 37-yard field goal in the final minutes -- meaning for the second time in the history of the series and the first since 1997, the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl would be decided in overtime. JCU would get the ball first and go up 20-17 on a Josiah Kedzior field goal. The Yellow Jackets needed a field goal to tie and a touchdown to win, but a Mike Nettling interception on B-W's second play enabled John Carroll to recapture the Cuyahoga Gold Bowl Trophy for the first time since 2004.
