Cuyahoga Gold Bowl: 2009

Sept. 19 – Shula Stadium

Final: JCU 43, B-W 29

Jeff Javorek threw five touchdown passes in his first career start to lead John Carroll to a 43-29 victory over Baldwin-Wallace. The 43 points represent the most scored by a John Carroll team against Baldwin-Wallace, and the 72 combined points scored are the most in the history of the series which dates back to 1921. A touchdown run by John McGraw and a 20-yard field goal by Brad Pollock early in the second quarter pushed the B-W advantage to 10-6, but JCU scored the final ten points of the half to take a 16-10 lead into the locker room. Baldwin-Wallace came out firing in the second half, needing just nine plays to move the length of the field, and used a nine-yard run by McGraw to tie the score at 16-16. Turnovers would lead to the next two scores for the Blue Streaks. JCU turned one fumble into a 13-yard Frank Ross (touchdown reception, and an interception set up a Scottie Williams touchdown catch. Ahead 30-16, the Blue Streaks were able to keep Baldwin-Wallace at a one-touchdown arm's length the remainder of the night. JCU sealed the win late when Ken Bevington forced a fumble, setting up Kenneth Owens for the final touchdown of the night -- a six-yard run that provided the final margin.
