2010 OAC Swimming & Diving Championships - Day Two Recap

The second day of the 2010 Swimming & Diving Championships featured several more records falling by the wayside, and several great races with fantastic finishes. 

In the morning prelims, there was a stretch where three records fell in consecutive events. Hannah Bukowy of Ohio Northern broke her own league record in the Women’s 100 Breast, followed by Polar Bear teammate Andrew Keriazes in the Men’s 100 Breast with a swim of 58. 

Julia Adams of John Carroll would then break the Women’s 100 Back mark. 

Those swims set the stage for Friday night’s competition. Ohio Northern and Baldwin-Wallace began the night with results very similar to year’s past. Ohio Northern won the Women’s 200 Medley Relay in 1:49.92 for their sixth consecutive win in this event. 

Baldwin-Wallace won its third Men’s 200 Medley Relay in a row as Vince Colwell, Ryan Musille, and Matt Diamond have been a part of all three. 

Michelle Eggers followed in her former Ohio Northern teammate Lacey Shumate's path with a win in Women's 400 IM, touching the wall in 4:45.04. 

Ryan Bender won the Mens 400 IM in 4:08.62, leading an Ohio Northern sweep of the top four places as Nick Swint, Casey Davis, and Jeffrey Zelenik joined the fun. 

Julie Creech made it a great night for Wilmington, as he pulled off the upset in the Women’s 100 Fly (59.87). She was the first Quaker to win the 100 Fly since 2003 (Kerri Fortman). 

In the best individual race of the night, Garrett Dauch of Ohio Northern edged Eric Davis of John Carroll in the Mens 100 Fly by .02 of a second (52.13-52.15). 

Lisa Noble made some history with her victory in the Womens 200 Free (1:56.53), becoming first Mount Union champion in this event since 1992. 

Michael Schultz of Ohio Northern defended his Men’s 200 Free title, lowering his NCAA "B" cut in the process with a time of (1:41.00). It was third career title in this event. 

Hannah Bukowy did not break the OAC record she set in the prelims (1:09.15), but she still bested the field in winning the Women’s 100 Breast with a time of 1:09.24. Her teammate, Andrew Keriazes (ON) did beat his morning record, overcoming a fast start from defending champion Ryan Musille of Baldwin-Wallace to win the Men’s 100 Breast (58.42). 

Julia Adams not only broke the OAC record she set seven hours prior, but she also m NCAA "B" cut with win in the Women’s 100 Back (59.50) 

In another great race, Joey Bechtel of Ohio Northern won a closely contested Men’s 100 Back, as the top five finishes were separated by .42 of a second 

Baldwin-Wallace College sweeps the diving, as Julie Pinter sets an OAC record on the 1-meter board (448.80), while Todd Rickert wins his third in a row on the 3-meter board 

ONU breaks its own record with convincing win in the Women’s 800 free relay (7:54.87), while Jimmy Ranollo's anchor leg earned JCU a come from behind win in the Men’s 800 free relay (6:58.04) to close out the night.
