Cuyahoga Gold Bowl: 2013
Sept. 21 – Finnie Stadium
Final: JCU 27, BW 7
The last time the John Carroll University football team went into Baldwin Wallace and came away with a victory was 2001. Tom Arth was the quarterback. Now as head coach, Arth’s Blue Streaks dominated in every aspect to take the 27-7 win and send the coveted Gold Bowl trophy back to University Heights. An explosive second quarter had the Blue Streaks primed. JCU materialized a 12-play, 96-yard drive for the game’s first score – a 12-yard loft from Mark Myers to Alex Kline. After a Randy Greenwood 1-yard touchdown run, senior Mitch Krotz forced a fumble on the ensuing kickoff to set up a JCU field goal just before halftime. Brody Zangaro kept the Yellow Jackets at bay with two fourth quarter interceptions. Defensively, BW was limited to 23 yards in the first quarter despite having the OAC’s No. 3 rushing offense. JCU turned up the defensive pressure in the second quarter only allowing 16 yards. DaQuan Grobsmith carried 29 times for 115 yards.
