Marty Newman is in his second year with the John Carroll football program, where he will assist coaching the linebacker and special teams units.

Newman's charges had a productive first year with the Blue and Gold amongst the nation's leaders in blocked punts (sixth) and blocked kicks (11th). JCU recorded seven total blocked kicks with six coming on punts.

Before joining the Blue Streaks, Newman was an intern with the Lake Erie College football program on the defensive side of the ball. During his time with the Storm, Newman also assisted in recruiting.

Newman was a player at Lake Erie College in Painesville, Ohio. As a member of the Storm, he played on the defensive line as well as the special teams unit as the long snapper. Newman was elected as a team captain his senior year.

Newman began his collegiate career as a member of the Eastern Michigan football team, where he was voted as scout team player of the year in 2008.

A graduate of St. Edward High School in Lakewood, Ohio, Newman was a four-time varsity letterwinner with the track team in addition to earning three letters with the football team. He earned the St. Edward leadership award as a captain his senior year.

In high school, Newman was voted to the Greater Cleveland Coaches Association East West game.

A recent graduate of Lake Erie College, Newman earned a degree in Sports Management.
