A one-time "walk-on" in the John Carroll University wrestling program, Dr. Dariush "Dar" Saghafi is entering his ninth year as a volunteer assistant coach for the Blue Streaks.

A home-grown product, Saghafi graduated from Normandy High School (Parma, OH) before heading to John Carroll University. Although he had never wrestled before stepping on the mat at John Carroll, he would survive his first season before lettering in his second under the tutelage of coach Tony DeCarlo.

Saghafi went on to study medicine and become a neurologist -- which left a gap of nearly 17 years of being out of touch with the sport of wrestling. Urged on by his family, he went on a mission to trim over 40 lbs. in six months by returning to JCU and "training with the team he loved so much" as a volunteer coach.

Parma Neurology's Chief Neurologist as well as the Director of the Headache Clinic at Cleveland VA Hospital, Saghafi is the producer and host of his own monthly radio show entitled "The Ohio Physicians's Educational Network" which airs over WHK 1420 AM on the third Sunday of each month.

In addition to wrestling on a near daily basis with the team he is an avid racquetball aficionato and plays the violin semi-professionally on a regular basis in concerts and recitals all over the Greater Cleveland area. He is married to his wife of 22 years, Patricia, and they have four children, three of which currently attend JCU.
