Blue Streaks Grab Early Lead To Run Past Muskingum For Fifth Straight Road Win

John Carroll scored eleven of the first 15 points and never looked back in blasting Muskingum, 75-61, notching its fifth road win in a row and its ninth consecutive victory overall.

In the opening 5:03, the visiting Blue Streaks would build an 11-4 lead only to have Zach Olson hit two consecutive three-point field goals to pull within one point at 11-10.

The Blue Streaks responded with a 10-1 run to pull ahead 22-11, and would cruise to a 38-28 lead by the end of the half.

The Muskies roared out fot he locker room with Andrew Chonko scoring consecutive baskets to pull the home team within six points at 38-32. John Carroll again answered with a 7-0 run to jump start their second half efforts.

JCU would push the lead to as many as 20 points in the second half to complete a regular season sweep of the Muskies for the third consecutive season.

John Carroll (13-4, 9-2 OAC) had four players score in double figures, led by reigning OAC Player of the Week Rudy Kirbus with 15. Also recording double digit scoring efforts were Maurice Haynes with 12, Corey Shontz with 11 and Joe Meyer with 10.

The victory combined with Wilmington's loss to Capital (77-74) tonight puts John Carroll alone in second place in the OAC standings. The Blue Streaks will host first place Capital on Saturday at 2:00 p.m.

Muskingum (8-10, 5-6 OAC) was led by 17 points from Trevor Scott and 11 off the bench by Olsen. The Muskies were just 17-50 (.340) from the floor and committed 17 turnovers as compared to only seven by the Blue Streaks.
