Men's Soccer Backed Into Corner Following Loss To Baldwin-Wallace

Despite the best efforts of senior Sam Stoll and the Blue Streaks, no equalizer could be found in a 1-0 loss to Baldwin-Wallace
John Carroll gave up a goal in the 37th minute and could not come up with an equalizer in falling by a 1-0 count to crosstown and Ohio Athletic Conference rival Baldwin-Wallace Wednesday afternoon at Don Shula Stadium.

Box Score

The loss jeopardizes John Carroll's run of 10 consecutive OAC Tournament appearances, and puts the Blue Streaks into a must-win situation when they host Muskingum on Saturday night. Today's result leaves John Carroll with nine points and in a tie for sixth place with Otterbein. Only the top six teams qualify for the league's postseason tournament.

The two teams played an even first 20 minutes, but Baldwin-Wallace asserted control over the final 25 minutes of the opening period. After several close calls, the Yellow Jackets cashed in at the 36:32 mark when Tyler Leister punched in a Noah Eubanks pass.

JCU spent the remainder of the contest trying to match the Baldwin-Wallace goal. Yellow Jacket keeper Russ Mike made seven of his nine saves in the second half to preserve the win for the vistors.

Baldwin-Wallace, which locked up no worse than third place in the OAC (its best finish since tying for second place in 1986), is now 11-6-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the OAC, while John Carroll falls to 8-6-5 overall and 2-3-3 in league action.
