Meredith Skaggs went the distance to win at #4 singles in John Carroll's league opener at Ohio Northern

John Carroll had a tough draw to open its 2009 Ohio Athletic Conference schedule, dropping an 8-1 decision to Ohio Northern Wednesday night at the ONU Sports Center in Ada, Ohio.
Ohio Northern, which was the 2008 OAC runner-up and has made the championship match in each of the last seven OAC postseason tournaments, won all three doubles matches by a comined score of 24-8.
The Blue Streaks had a better showing in singles, where they had two matches go the distance. Meredith Skaggs won at #4 singles by a score of 7-2, 2-6, 10-8, while Maria Ciccolini started off strong but fell late, 6-0, 3-6, 3-6.
The Polar Bears improve to 8-4 overall and are 1-0 in OAC action, while the Blue Streaks fall to 4-7, 0-1.
