Michael Finissi helped JCU earn a doubles point in its showdown with OAC rival Mount Union
Box Score
Last year, John Carroll and Mount Union staged a classic battle where one point decided matters. On Wednesday at Purvis Park, the Purple Raiders firmly established themselves as the league favorites with a 7-2 win over the Blue Streaks.
It was John Carroll's first loss in four Ohio Athletic Conference matches this year after winning the first three by a combined score of 25-2.
Mount Union won two the three doubles matches, with the lone JCU point coming off the racquets of James Steward and Michael Finissi at the #2 spot. The duo needed a 7-2 tiebreaker advantage to post the 9-8 victory.
Steward would also be the only singles winner for the Blue Streaks, winning 6-2 6-2 over Zach Perry.
JCU is now 6-7 overall and 3-1 in the OAC, while Mount Union moves to 10-4 and 2-0 in the league.
