Box Score

When the number one tennis player in the line-up is missing, everyone slides up a spot and attempts to elevate their game.

With senior leader James Steward (Monroe, MI, Monroe) fulfilling an important academic commitment, a reshuffled JCU line-up made up for his absence with a spirited effort and a 7-2 win over Muskingum Saturday in New Concord, Ohio.

Chad Ruehs (Poland, OH, Poland Seminary) stepped up big time with a straight set win at #1 singles, as did Michael Finissi (Columbus,OH, Bishop Watterson) at #3, Ross Venzke (Holland, OH, Toledo St. John's) at #4, Michael Hulseman (Winnetka, IL, Loyola Academy) (JCU) at #5, and Fitzgerald, Bill (Oakbrook, IL, Montini Catholic)at #6.

With the victory Saturday, John Carroll finishes the regular season at 10-9 overall and 7-2 in the OAC. The Streaks will learn their seeding in the upcoming OAC Tournament Sunday after tiebreaker procedures are sorted out, but are assured of a home match on Tuesday in the quarterfinal round.
