Blue Streaks Fall to Mount Union In Second Conference Clash

| By:
JCU had some strong individual swims in light of a team loss at Mount Union Wednesday
After taking care of things in their first meet of 2010-11, the women's swimming and diving team was on the other end of it this time as they were defeated, 146-80, by Mount Union in Alliance.

The loss dropped the Blue Streaks to 1-1 on the season - and 1-1 in the conference.

There were some bright spots from the Blue Streaks, and they came from the younger kids.

Sophomore Megan Carrig, who already has conference "Swimmer of the Week" honors to her credit this season, cruised to victory in the 1000 Freestyle. She touched the wall in 11:37.00, more than 13 seconds ahead of her closest competitor.

Carrig also swam the first leg of the 400 Freestyle Relay that the Blue Streaks won, joining freshman Lindsay Eddingfield, sophomore Maggie Donoghue and junior Emma Atkinson to touch in 3:55.85.

Freshman Sara Knezevich, who earlier in the evening was sixth in the 200 IM, claimed the top spot in the 100 Breaststroke. She touched in 1:14.50, and right behind were classmates Sara Needham (second - 1:16.43) and Autumn Walkerly (third - 1:20.12).

John Carroll will take a break from conference competition and host Notre Dame College at 7 p.m. inside Johnson Natatorium on Friday night. Next weekend, JCU will go down the road to participate in the Veale Classic, hosted by Case Western Reserve University.
