Fourth Win In Last Six Matches Vaults Blue Streaks Into Top Four Of League Standings

John Carroll's 9-0 win over Heidelberg Tuesday afternoon in Tiffin had more significance than would be apparent on the surface.

With their fourth win in the last six matches, the Blue Streaks' men's tennis team moved into position to host an Ohio Athletic Conference tournament match next week.

After rolling through doubles play, JCU went six-for-six in straight set wins over the course of singles play. Ryan Mullaney (Chicago, IL, Nazareth Academy) got the ball rolling with a 6-3 6-1 win over Bobby Lochotzki at #1, whileAlex Millar (Akron, OH, Revere) andChad Ruehs (Poland, OH, Poland Seminary) followed suit at #2 and #3, respectively. Millar and Ruehs dropped just five games between them.

Michael Hulseman (Winnetka, IL, Loyola Academy) won by a closer 6-3 6-3 score over Dylan Booth at #4 singles.

Two seniors reached milestones with their singles wins. Ross Venzke (Holland, OH, Toledo St. John's) at #5 won his 50th career match while Matt Tomayko (Solon, OH, Solon) brought home win number 60.

JCU is now 5-6 overall and 5-3 (4th) in the OAC. Heidelberg slips to 5-10 overall and 3-4 (6th) in league play.

If John Carroll can beat tenth place Wilmington on the road Saturday, the Blue Streaks would be guaranteed to host an OAC Tournament quarterfinal round match.
