Football Staff Rounds Into Shape With Promotion Of Zagorski, Addition Of King And Nettling

Tom Zagorski will be John Carroll's offensive line coach and special teams coordinator for the 2010 campaign

The John Carroll University football staff continued its offseason rebuilding with the promotion of Tom Zagorski and the addition of two former all-conference players.

Zagorski, who has spent the past two seasons as a graduate assistant coach, has been promoted to the full-time position of offensive line coach and special teams coordinator. He succeeds his former mentor, Andy Hoffman, who left to take the top assistant position at North Park College in Illinois.

A former Case Western Reserve University standout player, Zagorski helped the Spartans complete the best football season in school history in 2007, going 11-1 with a trip to the NCAA Division III playoffs. A four-year letterwinner at Case, he was named an All-University Athletic Association honorable mention center in 2003 and 2004. Zagorski was a starting offensive guard, earning first team all-conference allocades and second team D3football.com All-North region status as a senior.

A native Clevelander, Zagorski attended Cleveland Benedictine High School, where he won the prestigious Joe Rufus Spirit Award twice.

Also joining the staff is Tim King, who will be in charge of the safeties. A 2004 graduate of John Carroll, King was a three-year letterwinner and two-year starter for the Blue Streaks. Twice named All-Ohio Athletic Conference, King was a 2004 team captain.

Since departing JCU, King has spent five years at Theodore Roosevelt High School in Kent, Ohio, as both a teacher and coach. In football, King spent the last two years as the defensive coordinator and linebackers coach. He was a member of the staff in the school's only two state playoff appearances (2006 and 2008).

King, who teaches History at Roosevelt, also serves as an assistant baseball coach at the high school.

A member of 1999 OHSAA Division I state championship team at Saint Ignatius High School, King earned his Master's Degree in Educational Administration from Kent State University in May 2010, and was recently named the Dean of Students at Roosevelt High School.

Michael Nettling is also an addition to the staff, assuming the reigns as a graduate assistant. Nettling will oversee the tight ends as an offensive assistant coach.

As a player, the 2009 John Carroll graduate was known for his play on defense. As a senior, Nettling earned first team All-OAC and second team all-region accolades as an inside linebacker. He was captain of the 2008 team, earning four letters and starting three seasons for the Blue Streaks.

The promotion of Zagorski and addition of King and Nettling are the most recent changes to the JCU staff that began when Tom Arth was brought aboard as the Co-Offensive Cordinator, Quarterbacks coach and Director of Football Operations in March of 2010.
